Onderzoek naar Mensen die Thuis Verlaten (‘Research on People leaving their Home’) This project displays the reasons for someone to leave their home country,.while showing the socio-economic differences within our world. The book consists of different world maps, and ends with a map of the ‘Perfect World’: a world that excludes all countries at war, with a bad economic status, with low life expectancy, that do not fulfil universal human rights, and more reasons that, according to ‘official statements’, make a country lack in quality of life.
This project started after analysing a list made by the Dutch authorities called ‘Safe Countries of Origin’: a list that is supposed to determine if refugees (or ‘asylum seekers’) are entitled to a residence permit. This book puts into perspective many other reasons for someone to leave their home and hopes to make us realise how fortunate people in countries of the ‘Perfect World’ are.
